Our Canberra accommodation is perfect for exploring this fascinating city, which was chosen as Australia's capital in 1908 and fully planned in 1912 by Walter Burley Griffin, the winner of an international design competition. Europeans first settled the Canberra area in the 1830s, on the lands of the Indigenous Ngunnawal people, and Canberra's name is thought to mean 'meeting place', derived from the Aboriginal word Kamberra.

Canberra has two main football teams, which are the NRL Canberra Raiders, and the countries most successful Super 14 team, the ACT Brumbies.
